Those Who Came Before: Stories of the Ancestors for Those Who Come After

Nancy L. Bieber

  • 1400

With curiosity stimulated by letters, photos, documents, and other treasures in her attic, the author researched family stories from colonial times to the lives of her parents, Lucille Wenger and Ammon Bucher Meyer. Focusing particularly on stories of farming, teaching and church work in her family in south-central Pennsylvania in the 17th to 20th century, the book tells of turning land granted by William Penn into a farm, of teaching in a one-room school or a brand new college, and of the challenges and commitments within church life. Frequent family names include: Meyer, Bucher, Wenger, Oberholtzer. (252pp. illus. Masthof Press, 2024.)
