The Path to America: From Switzerland to Lancaster Co., Pennsylvania

The Path to America: From Switzerland to Lancaster Co., Pennsylvania

Myrna Grove

  • 1600

This children's book celebrates the 300th Anniversary of the First Settlement in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania (1710-2010). Follow the tumultuous and true story of the first settlers as the story begins in Zurich, Switzerland, in the early 1500s when the Anabaptists began to meet secretly. Anabaptists, such as Jacob Graf (1618-1683), fled with others to southern Germany. In 1710, a small group of Swiss Mennonites left Germany for America and started the first settlement in what later became Lancaster Co., Pa., and gained the long-sought freedom to worship God in their chosen way. (100pp. illus. Author, 2009.)
