Apart from the World: An Account of the Origins and Destinies of Various Swiss Mennonites (Book III)

J. Ross Baughman

  • 2300

This third volume spotlights early Anabaptist history in Switzerland, Alsace and the Palatinate, and follows the families Bachmann, Bär, Hauser, Hiestand, Leamann, Ringger, Schmidt and Strickler through their arrival in the New World. It even includes, for the first time, all 49 verses of an epic Anabaptist hymn "The Zürich Song," a 1686 ode to Swiss martyrs made complete with its musical score and English translation.

"This six-book series contains a wealth of historical detail about many Anabaptist-rooted families of Canton Zürich, Switzerland. Baughman brings historical stories to life that have been buried for centuries. In doing so, his amazing drawings, maps, and ancient images enrich the narratives, making lasting impressions on the readers' minds. Ross' books paved the way for me as I researched the Swiss and Rhineland-German history of my Anabaptist Hiestand family, from Europe and all the way to their settlements in early America." - Wayne Haston, Ph.D.

Each volume was written to stand alone, and will be offered individually as described here, or as a complete 1500-page set that spans 673 illustrations, 58 maps, and even a few recipes.
