Unionists and the Civil War Experience in the Shenandoah Valley, Vol. I
This essential compilation about the Civil War documents how 37 families of the Brethren, Mennonite, Methodist Episcopal, and German Reformed churches gave witness to their convictions during a difficult time. The first in a series, this book tells the stories of more than 260 Unionists in Rockingham County, particularly those who lived in the Mt. Crawford and Cross Keys areas of Virginia. Preserved in the National Archives, their experiences during the war and these narrations are now made available in this first volume. (741pp. illus. index. hardcover. Penobscot Press, 2003.)
