John Bitner (Dec. 5, 1812-Mar. 13, 1872) m. Anna Martha Kilmer (May 9, 1809-Mar. 13, 1878) in Reichensachsen, Germany. They initially settled in Berks Co., Pa., in the late 1840s with their five children. They later moved to Snyder Co., where John died and where several of his children remained. Two of John's children migrated to Akron, Ohio, and Jackson Co., Illinois. Copies and transcripts of many original records (including church records from Germany and ship passenger lists) as well as land records for the Bitner family in Berks, Snyder, and Northumberland Counties are included. Frequent surnames include: Bitner (Bittner, Buttner), Gemberling, Krug, and Schrey. (382pp. illus. index. Author, 2008.)
