Located in Chester Co., Pa., one of William Penn's original three counties, Parkesburg was first known as Fountain Inn but was later renamed after prominent politician John G. Parke. Important businesses for the town were the Philadelphia and Columbia Railroad and the Parkesburg Iron Company owned by Horace Beale, which had a competitive baseball team who played against major leaguers such as Babe Ruth. The town can boast that it even had one of the first airfields in the county. (128pp. illus. Arcadia Pub., 2009.)
