- Begin with progenitor as #1, his oldest child as #2, etc.
- Direct Outline
- Roman capitals for children
- Indentation and capitals for second generation
- Indentation and Arabic numerals for third generation, etc.
- York System
- Capital letters for each progenitor or immigrant
- Numerals for each child corresponding to order of birth (A125)
- Generation Designation
- Begin with the oldest child and exhaust that child's family before repeating with later children.
